The Lodge

The Souris Striders Ski Club in Souris, Prince Edward Island, was founded in 1988 by a group of local skiing enthusiasts. The club offers trails for classic, skate skiing, and snowshoeing. It is located just 6 km north of Souris near Harmony Junction on Route 305 (Souris Line Road).

The Lodge is maintained and available for rental by the Souris and Area Branch of PEI Wildlife Federation.

The club has 13 kilometers of trails for classic skiing and snowshoeing. In 1991, the club had about 500 members, but membership declined over the years, reaching around 100 members at one point. To address financial challenges, the club installed a heat pump to cut heating costs and rented out the lower part of the lodge to the local watershed group. They also started a lottery as an annual fundraiser.

A turning point came when the club partnered with the Souris and Area Branch of the PEI Wildlife Federation, which took over ownership of the building, freeing up the club financially. A few years ago, the board decided to reduce membership and rental costs to eliminate financial barriers for people trying cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The interest in outdoor activities sparked by the pandemic brought new faces to the Souris ski club, with an increase in young families and young adults. The club has rebounded financially and has seen membership grow to almost 500 members for two consecutive seasons.
