Morning All!
Welcome to ski season 2025, with two groomer passes completed on Souris Striders Ski Trails to date. We see a significant thaw coming at the end of the week, but we are hoping these passes of the groomer will help get a solid base with the freeze / thaw action between now and winter. Our first ski of the season on groomed trackset was 09 December – which may be a club record – our groomer went to the doctor, and is showing promise of a speedy recovery and a reliable 2026 season!
In the off-season, we completed our lighting extension project, which now has the entire 5k outer loop lit, giving us 7.5k of continuous lit trail – the 5k and the 3k loops. The lights come on at 4:45pm and turn off around 10:30pm (don’t hold me to that… aim for 10 but it could be 11). We are waiting to update our timer system so that it also comes on in the morning, we will post when that is in effect. According to the internet, it’s somewhere between the longest continuous system in Eastern Canada and North America… we aren’t sure? Canmore is 7k continuous…
We currently have 2 lights out on our 3k system, we have replacements in the wings for those, and will hopefully get that done prior to the heart of the season, but as it sits currently – the lights have been a welcome addition!
The club has purchased a snow dog to groom snowshoe trails / backcountry classic trails this winter, and we are looking for interested
participants in occasional backcountry days where we groom into areas not typically skied into. This may be biweekly or monthly depending on interest – if interested, please email chad.amooney@gmail.com and we’ll start a list!
We will have events updated for the new year, and are looking forward to continued and new partnerships as well!
As always – if snowshoeing, please get as far off the track as possible, and then stick to the snowshoe trails once you pass the warming hut – there is a new connector trail there marked that can get you directly to Legacy Loop from the Warming Hut.
We’d also like to thank all of the volunteers who came out early November for our trail maintenance day.
We will keep the trail conditions as up to date as possible on the website as the conditions ebb and flow, but if in doubt – common sense prevails. If it’s +10, the skiing probably isn’t ideal. We caution approaching the hills and JL Loop at full speed as there is some areas there that still need some snow to fill in low spots.
The website will be updated ASAP to purchase 2026 Ski Passes.
Looking forward to seeing new and old faces this winter!
Chad
