Happy Sunday Everyone!
Quick update from the trails/lodge:
- The Snowshoeing today was beautiful! We went out and put pinflags through the entire Meteorite Loop, hopefully this will assist in some of those confusing intersections! There are two trees down that will be removed on Legacy Loop, but aside from that – everything is in awesome shape.
- The Ski Trails have a tremendous base, and about 4-6 inches of snow, a few more inches and we’ll be able to begin grooming – so keep staring longingly at the clouds!
- The 55+ Games will be hosting their snowshoe event on this loop on Saturday at 1:30! So if you feel like getting out for a walk with them, we’ll be there too!! Contact Sara Deveau (1(902)969-1940) to register!
Rundown for this coming weekend:
- Thursday Night Under the Lights: This Thursday we will meet again for a headlamp snowshoe/ski (snow dependant) with a Bogside 0 at the warming hut and a fire afterward. 8 pm departure!
- Friday Trivia: Currently we are at max capacity, which we are stoked about! Looking forward to seeing you all out and about! One of our new partners – MYSA Nordic Spa, has graciously donated 2 spa passes as door prizes! We will also be serving Bogside Beer and SNAPs for this event! Things kick off at 7 pm.
- Saturday Morning: Ski + Breakfast by donation. Leaving the Lodge @ 7 am. No registration is required.
- Saturday Snowshoe Orienteering: We are hoping to have this through QR Codes on our website! More to follow – no registration required, just a fun history / ecological scavenger hunt through the woods!
- Saturday Snowshoe 55+ Games: Starting @ 1:30, the 55+ Games will be hosting their snowshoe race on the trails!
- Saturday Group Snowshoe @ 2 pm: Group Snowshoe with Chad taking in all 6k of the Snowshoe Trails – this is a great time to get insight into some of the areas the trail goes through.
- Saturday Night Ski @ 7 pm: A Dusk / Night ski into a fire at the woodstove.
- Saturday Night w/ Billy White: Back at the Lodge, Billy White will be playing from 9 – 12, with Alcohol on site for all of those interested as well as non-alcohol options as well.
- Sunday – folks are encouraged to go to the Nordic Spa to get a break from the trails, and enjoy a relaxing day – Winterval Style. Bogside is also doing a Winterval Music & Food Bank Drive. This is a free event. Admission by food & monetary donations are greatly encouraged. Donations will go directly to the Montague Food Bank. This is from 2 – 5pm.
Other Events on the Horizon!
- Snowshoe Event w/ Bogside on 11 February! This will be a collaboration between Souris Wildlife, Souris Striders, and Bogside Brewery. Snowshoeing will take place at a location to be determined in the Montague area, with snowshoes provided by Souris Striders. A reception at Bogside to follow with deals on food/pints!
- Ski Event @ The Lodge 24 Feb: Ski 24 on the 24th will occur this year, aiming to have participants ski 24km on the 24th (or as many as you want)!! Loaf and Ladle will be catering from 3:30 onward, as well as a Cribbage Tournament at the Lodge, hosted by Patty Mooney and Doris McKinnon. More details to follow on Cribbage Tournament Registration. Alcohol will also be available at this event for those interested, and as always, the Lodge will have Bogside 0 as well!
Throughout our events this winter, please drink responsibly, and if you require a drive home contact Allan or Karen, who are providing safe drives home by donation to fundraise for a high school trip this year. They can be contacted @ 902-314-3946 (Allan) or 902-969-7737 (Karen). If you would like to book ahead of time, this works as well, and guarantees a drive (which is better than sleeping in the groomer building).
There was a pair of mittens found on the trail (photo below!) they will be at the lodge.
We are excited to have partnered with MYSA Nordic Spa this year, and for all of those interested, if you attend the spa – you can ask for a free rental / one-day trail pass while you are there, and it is included in your Nordic Spa Day Pass. So why not make a day of it!! And introduce a friend to both!!
In closing, when we aren’t praying for snow, we are snowshoeing right now as the conditions are phenomenal out there for snowshoes or just trail shoes. Some have been wearing grippers, but for the most part – trail shoes/boots have been sufficient! There has been some confusion within the new loop with signage, but we are constantly improving it, and the addition of pin flags (as shown in the pictures) should make it super easy moving forward. Our new toques are in! So if you bought the membership that includes one, they will be at the lodge.
Some exciting times at the Lodge over the next week!!! Can’t wait to see you all out there!
