Trail & Fun Stuff Report – Winter Hub Project

Happy Storm Day Ski Fans!

Trail News:
Great news – everything is groomed and skiable! A little bit of a speed wobble on Fox Run, so please be careful in there and take it slow. It should be fixed up by the weekend. There are still some overhanging limbs that once in a while get in the way (better if you are shorter like myself – haha). If you intend to go for a classic ski, and bring some loppers, most are easily achievable to get that way. There are one or two that will be taken with the chainsaw next groom (5-6cm on Thursday possibly).

Myself (Chad) and Kevin will be hosting our first “Thursday Night Under the Lights” Ski this Thursday – 09 Jan. This will be a group ski, leaving the warming hut @ 8pm. We will have a fire on in the warming hut, and people are more than welcome to bring a snack / beverage of choice with them to enjoy afterwards. Some will do the lit 3k / others can join in a headlamp backtrails ski! Bring your friends!! If you require rentals to partake, we can help out with that, and then return them following the ski.

The wet spots on the North side of the trails heading towards Harmony Bridge are still there a touch, I’ll move the trackset back to the right side next pass to avoid them. There is really only one that is interfering with skiing currently and will ideally freeze up this week.

Both skate and classic are in great shape currently – and in the morning’s with the sub-zero overnights, the morning push will be the best time to go! It could be soft early afternoon throughout the week.

Update on the lighting project – we are still hoping that the lights for the full 5k can be installed this month. We have everything except the hangers in stock currently, once we have those, we may close the trails to get these installed – keep on eye on our socials.

Lodge News:

In our attempts to make the ski lodge a winter place for the whole community, we’ve received interest from some awesome food and drink vendors in our community!

Loaf N’ Ladle: 19 Jan, 02 Feb, 16 Feb, 02 Mar – This will be Soups / Stews and all of the other awesomeness that Donal brings out!

Tipsy Farmer: 26 Jan, 09 Feb, 23 Feb – We are looking at this being a Brunch at the lodge. Tentatively looking at 10am-1pm, but we will confirm this as the first one approaches.

Blend N’ Brew: Saturdays and Sundays throughout the season setup upstairs starting as soon as this weekend if the weather / trails hold all week. Also may trial a menu out this winter as well – continue to watch their socials and ours!

This isn’t just for skiers!! This is open to Snowshoers, Snowmobilers, and Skiers – the more the merrier, and the goal here is to continue making the Ski Lodge our community hub for winter activities. We are still working on our Liquor License as well for this season, and once complete will be able to also serve Apres’ Ski Beverages. For now – keep them to fireball hill (just kidding – kind of…). Snowmobilers can make their way in through the fields edge (please don’t come in the groomed trail…) or up the roads edge into the parking lot – whichever is easier on their carbides.

Once we have firm hours and pricing, we will put together some posters and have them on our social media! We are super excited to offer more broad options at the lodge this winter – please support these awesome people!!

Our ski club AGM is next week (14 January) – all are welcome, and bring your great ideas! This AGM is where we will plan out any Trivia, Cribbage, and Ski events for the remainder of the year.

We are still firming up lodge hours for rentals, but in the meantime – grab a membership online and hit the trails!! If you need rentals, let us know and we can also look to work something out while Tyler is on vacation (until Monday 13 January).

Take Care!

Chad
