Main Takeaway: Keep an eye out on facebook to preorder your shirt, and if the weather continues to warm up, this could be some of the last pristine days of skiing remaining for our season.
Last Week:
With March on the horizon, we got a dump of rain on Saturday, that led to a deep freeze and a groom. The trails are in amazing condition right now, and there should be some great skiing this week. This weekend we saw Loaf and Ladle in on Sunday, the crib tournament on Saturday, and the Ski 24 over the weekend. The soups put on by Loaf and Ladle were a hit, despite the last-minute weather change in date. The crib tournament saw 16 teams. Thanks to Donal from Loaf and Loadle and Patty / Doris from the Intergalactic Crib Society for putting those events on (this isn’t a real organization – those two are just always traveling all over for cribbage…).
Cribbage Winners:
1st: Mike OKeefe & David MacSwain
2nd: Chad Mooney & Bill Yetman
3rd: Sara Deveau & Edna Miller
Upcoming Events:
The AGM is on Wednesday Night at 7 PM – all are welcome should you have ways we could improve things at the club, or ideas! Also – feel free to email items to the striders email that you would like brought up.
Thursday Night will be another Bogside Under the Lights Ski from 8 – 10pm! Fire and Bogside 0s to follow a 3 / 5 / 8k ski!
We are tentatively planning a closeout event for 09 March – if the trails are skiable, if they aren’t we will snowshoe!!! We are also doing a collaboration t-shirt with Bogside for this season. The plan is to do a new label each year and close the season with the themed t-shirt. If that doesn’t work – it will be a novelty collector’s item in years to come… we will have a Facebook post to preorder sizes and are just confirming delivery dates this week. The T-Shirts will also come with a Striders Gift with is the themed product from Bogside for your fridges.
The elimination draw winners have been posted on the website – thank you to everyone for their continued support! There seemed to be lots of anticipation on Facebook for the results, so thank you for all of the interest:
Trail Report:
Grooming report is keep an eye out on Fireball Hill – the trackset for the 5k was the last one made after 2-3 loops of everything, which causes Fireball Hill to have a bit of a break in track (Chad says sorry and not to blame Daniel!!! haha). Other than that, we’ve widened it out so that we could maintain space for all users to ensure the Skate Skiers and Snowshoers have space to use the trails. The classic trackset sees a couple of breaks at the tops which should be more fluid next groom. The snowshoe trail has been fully shoed, and is also in great shape! Token ask for Snowshoers to stay on the outsides should you decide to walk in from the lodge. There is a completely seperate snowshoe trail system, but we do notice that some people prefer to walk on the groomed trail. We have noticed this improving this season!!! So skiers – don’t hesitate to mention it to snowshoers you see, as many just aren’t aware.
Thank you everyone for the continued support overall this season – its been a great season so far, and hopefully our base hangs in there until….. July.
See you on the trails!
